Happy New Year, guys! I can’t believe it’s already 2019. A year ain’t what it used to be! It sure does go by quicker the older you get, doesn’t it?
I have several things I’ll be working on this coming year… There are the big things like traveling more with the kids, eating healthier, moving more and growing our business. One smaller thing I’d like to work on is adding more color to my closet. For years, I have shrouded myself in black because let’s face it, it’s just easier. We all know it makes us feel slimmer and it matches everything! You’re in a hurry to get ready, you’re just not in the mood to be creative, you might have/most certainly ate too many tacos the night before… ok yes, let’s just grab that black sweater and those dark jeans. No brainer, right? Well, that’s fine. Black certainly has its place. I have whole blog posts planned around black! But as a full-time artist who paints bright, colorful paintings and who makes bright, funky, colorful jewelry, it’s past time to bring color to my wardrobe. And I’m not waiting for spring!
So over the next few months, I’ll be introducing color combinations I hope you’ll try for yourself. The first is the classic combo of yellow and cobalt blue which also happen to be two of Pantone’s Spring/Summer 2019 colors so you’ll be seeing them a lot in the next few months.
Raise your hand if you don’t like or can’t think you can pull off yellow. 🙋🏻♀️ I used to feel the same way but I think it all comes down to the shade. Bright yellows make me look pale but I feel like warmer yellows like this mustard colored sweater work much better with my skin tone. Here’s me trying to look cool and collected while my family makes fun of me on the other side of the room. 🤪
So play around with different yellows and if you aren’t comfortable with it as a top, try pants or shoes or accessories. The purse I’m carrying these days is a warm mustard colored genuine leather and I got it brand new at Goodwill! Seriously, you never know what you will find in that place if you just take the time to look. I’ve posted links below for different options for bringing yellow into your wardrobe.
I think everyone looks good in cobalt blue but sadly I have very little of it in my closet. It’s actually one of my signature paint colors. I use it in my chinoiserie patterns in my paintings and lots of my earrings so it’s just strange to me that I don’t gravitate to it when I’m shopping. I actually had to go out and buy these cigarette pants especially for this post because I had nothing. That is going to change! And I love cigarette style pants because you can wear them year round and they look great with heels or flats.
Speaking of heels… I know, I know… big surprise I added leopard print but I thought they tied in the warm yellow nicely. I finally splurged on a pair of these Sam Edelman nude leopard heels a few months ago and I just love them but I don’t get to wear them often. They aren’t really chasing-a-two-year-old friendly. So I wear them when I can and other times I pull out my flats. You’ll find links to several options below.
For jewelry, I stacked several of my favorite bracelets in golds and whites. They include ones I’ve made for myself over the years, one from Stella and Dot and one from Anne Vaughan designs that Jason got me for a Christmas. Ain’t he sweet?
My earrings are Audra Style medium gold lips. They come in lots of colors. You can’t go wrong with the shiny gold ones I’m wearing here. They add a touch of whimsy to any outfit and they match everything!
eally loved mustard, cobalt and leopard print and I’m sure I’ll be wearing it again in some combination soon. I’ve left several options for building an outfit below.
Think blue top, mustard pants, leopard flats? Or that fabulous leopard sweater from Market 32 with blue jeans and mustard shoes?
So much yesss!
